KIERON Dyer could be in line for a call up to the 25-man squad, should he manage to remain injury-free.

The 33-year-old, former England international has been blighted with injuries throughout his career, the latter stopping his season just minutes into the opening day last season.

Dyer made an appearance from the bench against Wycombe Wanderers and is now keen to impress Mark Hughes and prove his fitness ahead of his 25-man selection.

Hughes is quoted on West London Sport: ‘It was brilliant for him – it`s been a long time.

‘We`ll go easy with him, It`s important we don`t rush him back too quickly. He had about 20 minutes and we`ll try to build that up.

“Kieron`s an excellent player and if I can get him anywhere near the level he was at before his injury I`ll be delighted.’

It would be fair to say that there was a great deal of scepticism regarding the Dyer deal initially, not to mention an extension granted to the midfielder at the beginning of the summer.

Dyer now has a chance to prove his worth in pre-season and try and remain injury free and ready to go for the season’s opener against Swansea City in a few week’s time.
