Experienced defender Danny Cullip has joined Rangers on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest today. The former Brighton and Sheffield United man has signed an 18 month deal and looks set to play at the heart of a new look defence in a 3-5-2 formation that Gregory favoured during his time at Aston Villa.

Cullip scored on his last visit to Loftus Road, bringing Brighton back into a game on the stroke of half time before ending up on the losing side thanks to Kevin Gallen and a wonder goal from Martin Rowlands.

Gregory told the QPR Official website: ‘We needed a player with his kind of character. He’s a leader, an organiser and in my opinion he’s a winner. He’s an out-and-out defender, who will help the inexperienced players that we have in the heart of our defence.”

The gaffer has now added Sam Timoska, Adam Bolder and Danny Cullip to his ranks this January but looks to have narrowly missed out on signing three more players with the window set to close in two hours time.

Tottenham`s Reto Ziegler has been in discussions with officials at Loftus Road over a loan move until the end of the season but has ultimately decided to go and play for six months in Italy with Sampdoria.

The club also sounded out Derby County over out of favour goalkeeper Lee Camp but have been knocked back. Camp was a hero of the promotion season at Loftus Road and would jump at a return to W12 but will have to wait until at least the summer for it to happen. Billy Davies` first signing as Derby manager was goal keeper Stephen Bywater which sent out a message that Camp was surplus to requirements and he`s already endured an indifferent loan spell with Norwich this season.

The club also approached Southampton with a view to signing their defender Martin Cranie but with Cullip and Bolder arriving in his two positions already the interest wasn`t taken any further.
