Ali Russell moved today to back the price hike at Queens Park Rangers, which he insists is nothing to do with financial miscalculation.

The Rangers deputy manager speaks about the sudden price hikes which have promoted rumours of possible miscalculations in the clubs budget, something that Russell profusely denies,

‘There are no errors.” Russell told Kilburn Times

“We’re trying to build a football club which is sustainable and the board felt it was necessary to take the club forward.”

‘We need to increase revenue in line with other areas of the business and all areas have got to come together to hit our targets.”

In essence it seems rather a strange decision that five games into the new campaign the board opt to hike the prices for what they see as a category A fixture.

With Rangers fans paying up to a staggering £50 for the fixture against Derby County there has been an outpouring of disgust on various message-boards. But Russell who was appointed deputy-manager following a move from Hearts insists that the season ticket holders are at the forefront of his thinking,

‘We feel we’re offering value for money and we want to give our season ticket holders the best value.”

‘The base price has not changed – you can still get a ticket here for £20, but we’re making an effort to maximise our revenue for the best views in the stadium.’

Indeed many fans have been worried about being priced out of the stadium, and not so much that current season ticket holders will be affected, but the dangerous precedent that is being set by these latest price hikes.

In the summer, this editor had a 50% increase on his season ticket, any similar increase will force yours truly to stop buying a season ticket, and instead pay lucrative prices on match-day.

A whole-heartedly embarrassing situation has been made all the more worse by the fact Derby County fans will have to pay £40 for their tickets, an issue which is yet to be resolved with the club.

Suffice to say Rangers fans are watching their club become everything they despise, Chelsea.
