QUEENS Park Rangers were humbled in emphatic fashion by League Two Burton Albion – who were every bit the value for their Capital One Cup victory.

A rare start for Adel Taarabt failed to paper over the cracks from an insipid start to the new campaign. The closest Rangers came was when Junior Hoilett clipped the bar in a languid opening period, that showed no signs of improving after the break.

The Brewers took a deserved lead with just over ten minutes remaining when Richard Dunne’s went in for a tackle with all the subtlety of a rhinoceros falling down the stairs and Adam McGurk dispatched his set-piece with aplomb.

Harry Redknapp – who didn’t take his place on the bench – has much to contemplate ahead of what appears to be a crucial early encounter, as his side fall to three defeats in succession without reply.
