27-year-old has ‘found his home’ in West London, club must prioritise keeping him here – Opinion

|

When he made the move in the summer, did any of us really think that he would make this much of an impact?

Jordan Hugill has certainly made his mark in West London so far this season, having reached double digits in terms of goals, and although he went through a bit of a baron spell during the month of December, he looks to have found his shooting boots again as he notched two during QPR’s thrashing of Swansea City in the FA Cup third round.

Now that we’ve seen what he can do for us, it’s time though for us to start looking ahead to what he can do for us in the future. The fact that he is only on loan, does somewhat mussy the waters when it comes to him, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t instantly dismiss any notion of holding on to him.

But if you look at his Championship record, you can see that his best goal return has come in West London, one goal away from matching his season-best tally with 5 months of the season left to play. Whatever it is at Loftus Road, he just seems to have found a ‘home’ here as it were. Maybe it’s the players around him, maybe it’s the system that Mark Warburton has him playing in, a combination of the two, or something completely different, sometimes it’s hard to tell.

But if QPR are going to make a move forward, then he is clearly one of the players that they can build the team around.

So this transfer window, they need to be doing everything they can to lock down his services for as long as possible, whether that is through buying him now, or coming to some sort of ‘buy now, pay later’ deal that Leeds pulled off with Wolves for Helder Costa, it doesn’t matter.

Should keeping hold of Hugill permanently be the top priority this window?

Yes

No

The sooner that the club can get its plan in order for the future, the more secure things will be. And tying down one of our top goal scorers would be a great way of going about that.
