QPR today announced the signing of American goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

The 6’3 goalkeeper signed for the R’s from American outfit Chicago Fire on a free transfer.

Pickens spoke to the Official Website stating:

‘It’s a big challenge for me, I’ve heard alot about the tradition here, the club has an extensive history and it is a privilege for me to be here.’

He continued:

‘I am here to add competition for places in the goalkeeping department. I’m not the kind of goalkeeper who will be content with being a number two, but we’ll have to wait and see what happends’

He also spoke about his international chances:

‘I’ve been in two squads recently, but I didn’t feel I was getting a real shot at it over there.’

‘Moving to QPR could enhance my chances and I am relishing the challenge that lies ahead’

Pickens has put pen to paper on a short term deal until the end of the season, and will be welcome news following the well publicised breakdown in Donovan Ricketts transfer as well as numerous missed targets, which has seen youngster Reece Crowther rise to second choice Goalkeeper.

Vital Football QPR would like to extend its welcome to Matt and wish him all the best in his Rangers career.
