QUEENS Park Rangers exacted deadly revenge over Rotherham United who themselves lurched another step closer to an inevitable relegation to League One.

Rangers by comparison looked every inch a top half side on this display – ruthlessly dispatching of a relatively hopeless Rotherham United side.

They opened the scoring through man-mountain forward Matt Smith with a delicate finish to belie his ample frame. A precise over the top through ball from strike partner Idrissa Sylla found the forward in behind as he caressed the ball home.

It was all going according to plan until Joe Newell scored the goal of the game – lashing beyond Alex Smithies from the edge of the area to level matters up. A strike that drew applause from sections of home crowd as he swept home.

Rangers however were indebted to ponderous defending courtesy of Cardiff City loanee Semi Ajayi. He got his control woefully wrong and pressure from Luke Freeman saw the defender crumble and the midfielder finish off with ease.

Into the second half and Rangers effectively sealed the win – a hopeful long throw saw Matt Smith bundled over in the area and despite the lack of appeals there was no hesitation from Oliver Langford in pointing to the spot.

There was a conversation between Sylla and Yeni Ngbakoto – but the latter was given the spot kick, rolled it home with aplomb and set up a stunning second half for the Frenchman.

Ngbakoto was tireless throughout the second period and instigated most of Rangers positive play – his cut in from the left saw a resultant cross whipped towards Massimo Luongo resulted in the Australian international glancing beyond Lewis Price for his first QPR goal.

Despite a lull in the second half Rangers did get their fifth in injury time – Yeni once again key tormentor with a precise free kick finding Nedum Onuoha to tap in on the goal-line.

Rangers finding their shooting boots but worrying for League One-bound Rotherham who fell to an inspired home display.
