“We Didn’t Deserve That” – Soft Penalty Leaves McClaren Perplexed

|

Queens Park Rangers were back in Championship action earlier this evening as we travelled to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City looking to put four straight defeats behind us.

With defensive issues from the last couple of games, not least Birmingham, there was reason for hope and given how we disappointedly failed to come back in that game, getting so close left many wondering if we would turn the tide tonight and continue that attacking momentum.

Although the hosts had the possession, QPR did far more with the ball in the opening 45 minutes and deservedly took the lead through Matt Smith in the final minute of the half and the momentum was ours.

Until it wasn’t as second half they took charge.

The hosts drew level with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game and then three minutes into stoppage-time they were awarded a penalty which I’ll need to see again, because it was Mr Soft, from Soft Street, Soft Town if I’m giving the player and referee any credit at all.

2-1 and another defeat is what the history books will show though.

Speaking to the media following the fulltime whistle, manager Steve McClaren said of the game.
