PETER Odemwingie has seen a transfer request turned down by West Bromwich Albion

The centre forward has been heavily linked with a move to Loftus Road in recent weeks with QPR seeing a bid rejected for the 31-year-old.

Now however he appears to be trying to engineer a move for himself in a request that was rebuffed by Albion, who are holding firm for now.

West Brom Sporting & Technical Director Richard Garlick has affirmed the club’s position on the matter: ‘Peter is hugely popular with our supporters and it is disappointing that he has decided to hand in a transfer request.’ he said.

‘It was immediately turned down and has done nothing to change our stance during January. Peter is under contract until the summer of 2014 and we have no need or desire to sell our core players.

‘We want to keep the squad intact to enable us to build on an encouraging first six months of the season.’

Odemwingie’s position as fans’ favourite will now be called into question given his desire to leave the Hawthornes for pastures new.

Whether that will be Loftus Road, in January, remains to be seen as the move takes its latest twist in a January saga.

Meanwhile there has been no further news on another West Brom target in Jonas Olsson with the Swedish defender seeing a bid turned down from the Rs.
