Jim Magilton has signalled his intention to make Ben Watson a permanent Queens Park Rangers player.

The Wigan Athletic midfielder has put in performances of varying standards while on loan at Loftus Road, culminating in a useful display against Coventry City last weekend.

He has evidently impressed manager Jim Magilton with the 24-year-old on his January shopping list as he looks to iron out a longer-term deal.

Speaking to the BBC he said: ‘I’d like to keep Ben at the club. If we can keep him until the end of the season or do a deal to sign him then I’d be delighted.

‘It’s something we’ll leave to the money men. I definitely want him. He’s a player I rate highly. He is energetic, keen and ambitious.’

Watson has made ten appearances for QPR, scoring two goals against Barnsley and Newcastle United. He has also been given his marching orders twice – both for a set of bookable offences.

With Gavin Mahon and Martin Rowlands sidelined with long-term injuries, Rangers supporters will be hoping that Watson will be tied down until the end of the season at least.
