Neil Warnock has moved to defend disgraced striker Marlon King, thus admitting his interest in the man recently released from prison.

The Daily Mail is today carrying quotes to suggest that QPR boss Neil Warnock is about to give another opportunity to the striker that was sent down for assaulting a woman in a night-club.

King was sacked by Wigan Athletic for the latest and most sickening of his convictions after being convicted of sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Despite being convicted it is an accusation that King rejects, and there are reportedly no shortage of clubs looking to offer the striker with 13 previous convictions a route back into the game.

Warnock told the newspaper: ‘He has served his time and we live in a country that we say when they have served their time give them another opportunity.

‘I am not condoning what he has done but I look at some of the other cases of players who have got into trouble in the past.

‘People have killed people and they never got the stick this lad has got. Whoever takes him he will want to prove himself.’

This will come as great disappoint to QPR supporters who know that their club cannot be as desperate as to offer this man another in countless chances.

The admission by Warnock that he deserves an opportunity after paying his debt is – reading between the lines – an admission of interest on his part to make the striker a QPR player.

Regardless of whether the alluded to incident is a case of mistaken identity, the conviction and several other convictions would completely contradict Rangers’ image of being a family club.

While the start of the season has proven fruitful with the supporters firmly in support of Warnock and his charges, this would be – in my opinion – a disastrous step backwards for QPR.
