Promising Australian star Nick Ward will fly into London next week to complete his deal from Perth Glory.

Rangers reached agreement with Perth on Tuesday over the undisclosed transfer fee and all that remains is for Ward (21) to pen his two-year contract on arrival.

Widely regarded as one the hottest prospects in Australia, Ward – who made 21 appearances for Hyundai A-League side Perth Glory last season, bagging five goals – has represented his country at all levels and only just missed out on a spot in the Socceroo’s World Cup squad.

He won this year’s A-League ‘Rising Star’ award and was recently included in a ‘Who’s Who’ of the best young players to watch on the FIFA website.

An FFA spokesman said: “It’s disappointing to see one of our best players leaving the A-League to play in a second-tier competition in England.

“His decision is against the advice of the national team management.”
