Warburton reveals what needs to happen to get the best out of player – report

|

Mark Warburton has revealed what the ‘key’ is to get the best out of young winger Bright Osayi-Samuel after his side managed to defeat Birmingham 2-0 on Wednesday evening.

Osayi-Samuel scored what can only be described as a wonder goal to secure all three points for Rangers. After picking the ball up comfortably in his own half, the winger started a mazy run where he outpaced much of the Birmingham defence, before slotting home a finish on his left foot past Connal Trueman.

After a run of eight games without the win, the Hoops have now managed to win two games on the bounce to put them within touching distance of the play-offs.

Skipper Grant Hall scored the opener in the match on the brink of half-time.

After the game, Mark Warburton waxed lyrical about the 21-year-old winger, going onto say that the stadium was “warmed” after he scored that goal.

He told the club website: “Bright warmed the whole stadium up with that goal. He worked so hard for that and then the finish. He showed his power and desire.

“Pace scares the life out of you. The key with him is to get him doing what he does best, running at defenders.

“It’s a tough place to come but getting that goal at the end of the first half was so important and it was our second successive clean sheet too. Very satisfying.”

This could be a big moment for both QPR and the youngster, as this back-to-back win seems to have instilled a lot of confidence amongst the fan base. As you can tell from Warburton’s words, he is pumping confidence into Osayi-Samuel and suggesting to him that he can do more if he can keep getting into positions where he is running at players and making them retreat.

Was Osayi-Samuel's goal the best of the season so far?

Yes

No

Osayi-Samuel has been in and out of the team since the beginning of the season, but this second goal is surely going to help his in staking a claim to be first choice within the team.

According to WhoScored, he has the sixth-highest average so far out of anyone in the squad with 6.72/10.

Furthermore, his statistics show that he brings something different to the table than perhaps Marc Pugh or Ilias Chair. 2.5 dribbles per game make him a constant threat for the defending team, and when Eberechi is also playing, it makes it difficult for defences to double up on either player.
