Waghorn Gunning For Rangers

Loan striker Martyn Waghorn is eyeing his second start of the season following his goal against Reading on Monday night.

The Sunderland loanee scored the goal to knock QPR out of a playoff place and sit the Foxes in fifth place, with a win poised to put them joint top of the Championship before the Saturday games.

The striker struck for the third time this season, despite it being only his first start in 13 attempts for the Foxes alongside Matty Fryatt.

He told the Leicester Mercury that he had a point to prove against Reading, and he hopes to retain his place for the televised trip to Loftus Road.

‘I’ve been on the bench a lot so it was great to get a start and get a goal and I want to keep it going. I think that I’ve proved a point that I can start and score,’ he said.

‘It would be nice if I did start but I’ve got to wait and see as there are four or five strikers who can score goals.’

Despite going six games without a goal top scorer Matty Fryatt still possesses a key threat according to Waghorn, and the R’s defence should be on their guard this weekend.

The former Walsall striker has seven goals this season, but nevertheless has hit a slight blip in recent weeks.

‘He is a great player to have alongside and we’re on the same wavelength as we play the same sort of game,’ continued fellow striker Waghorn.

‘Everyone misses chances and in those situations the other night I might have missed, too. But I’m sure he will score in the next game and he has proven already he is a good goalscorer.’

Waghorn has played at Loftus Road before, while on loan at Charlton last season starting in Paulo Sousa’s first game in charge of the hosts.

Rangers went on to win the game 2-1 courtesy of a brace from Dexter Blackstock sandwiching an effort from Therry Racon.
