Queens Park Rangers are on the verge of appointing the successor to Paulo Sousa, but is the decision a hasty one at this stage?

With the managerial merry-go-round set to enter full flow speculation is arising over a number of vacant positions both in the Championship and further afield.

Not least in the Premier League where Ricky Sbragia`s untimely departure from Sunderland has sent certain clubs scrambling to protect their assets. Couple this with Gordon Strachan walking from his position at Celtic and all of the sudden vacancies are cropping up at all manner of clubs.

Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce has been rumoured to take on the challenge at the Stadium of Light, while Strachan remains in close company for the post. This opens up a position for Roberto Martinez with the Latics – a move that remains in the rumour mill at present.

There has been much murmuring surrounding the managerial position at Queens Park Rangers in the last few weeks, whereby if you believe certain reports then Jim Magilton has definitely got the job, while others suggest Adrian Boothroyd is leading the Rangers hitlist.

Combine this with those ostensibly ‘in the know` jumping from one camp to the other every five seconds and it makes for an entirely undesirable situation, whereby Rangers are picking from two bosses who have failed to make the grade in the Championship in recent times.

It seems that the managers mentioned are not a priority for other clubs with Magilton out of work since late April and Boothroyd since November last year, and surely there would be something to fall back on should Rangers decide to play the waiting game for a few weeks and see what becomes of the recent manoeuvres in the managerial market.

The options that have been mooted for the post at Loftus Road have not been received well by sections of supporters, with some trying to claw to the potential positives that would accompany such an appointment. Suffice to say not many are clambering for the bookies` odds of 5/1 for promotion.

By waiting a few more weeks the R`s would be able to bolster their candidate list with more effective bosses, and should no new names of a reasonable standard come to the fore then Magilton and Boothroyd will still undoubtedly be waiting in the wings for possession of the poison chalice.

Do we play the waiting game? Or do we appoint another lamb to the slaughter and wait for Mr Briatore to spontaneously combust once again?

Should we wait? – Should we punt for Aidy or Jim?
