Guess it’s the greasy banana skin at the foot of the slippery slope then.

At half term, I ventured to suggest we merited a ‘C’ against the objective of promotion. We were hovering just outside the play off zone with a game in hand. The ‘C’ didn’t go down particularly well.

So what grade would you award now?

In a way, we’re still hovering just outside the play off zone. We’re 10th and only four points adrift, but no game in hand to propel us forwards (it didn’t last time anyway). Unfortunately we’re there, not through our own efforts, but because few teams are capable of stringing a couple of wins together and dragging themselves from the mire. In the circumstances, a ‘C’ would be far too flattering, don’t you agree?

10 points from 10 games. Not inspiring is it? But then the January and February fixtures don’t look as daunting as recent matches. We still have substantially the same players that out together that fine run from mid September, a bit of bolstering in the January window, and why shouldn’t it be us that strings together a few wins? I imagine by Sunday we’ll be able to concentrate wholly on the league.

On the other hand, the ‘R’ word has now been mentioned. Even on this bleak dark Tuesday morning as I travel back to work after Christmas, I’m sure it won`t come to that, but in the spirit of Queens Park Dramas, you can never quite be certain.
