PREVIEW |
Despite a good showing in previous seasons, Tykes boss Simon Davey paid for a succession of poor results with his job as Barnsley sat at the foot of the Championship.
The transformation under former Rotherham United manager Mark Robins was evident despite a heavy defeat at the hands of Jim Magilton’s QPR.
Robins managed to steer the Tykes to 18th place with 54 points, but they were hit hard by the news that top scorer Daniel Bogdanovic would defect to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.
The addition of Derby County flop Liam Dickinson could be constituted as his replacement but Robins has a lot more work to do if he is to keep Barnsley afloat once more.
Prediction: 23
The Tykes need some serious investment in the squad if they are to stay up in what could prove to be a keenly fought division this season.
The loss of Daniel Bogdanovic and Hugo Colace could be key as their ambition this season shouldn’t stem beyond battling against the drop.
They have a talented manager and should he not receive the funds required to help keep the Tykes in the Championship the vultures may circle for Mark Robins.
