Queens Park Rangers striker Rowan Vine has demanded improvement from the squad saying that finishing outside the top six next season would be a ‘massive disaster.’

The striker had been plagued with an injury the majority of the season but his return coincided with an upturn in form and belief for fans and players alike.

It was all too late for the 2008-09 campaign to truly make a difference but Vine believes that the time for talking about potential must stop and Rangers must realise their goal of promotion.

‘We need to have the character to go on an unbeaten run. Too many times we were found wanting last season,” Vine told QPR.co.uk

‘Next season we’ve got to have a big go at it, and if we fail to finish in that top six, then it would be a massive disaster.

‘We’ve been saying big things are going to happen here for long enough, now it’s time for us to do it,

‘Last season was a disappointment in my eyes. You can point to the fact that we finished higher than we did the previous year, but I still don’t think that’s good enough.’

Vine blamed a lack of consistency as one of the key reasons for the disappointing campaign combined with the missing killer instinct required to be a title challenger.

He said: ‘We lacked consistency last season. We had a patch where we did well, but we drew too many games, and that cost us.

‘Our play-off hopes were dashed by the games when we only took a point from when we were winning. That happened too often.’
