Mick Harford has stated that he wants Rowan Vine to stay at Queens Park Rangers – and very much figures in his plans.

Vine has been linked with a move away from Loftus Road as the club commences a clear-out of its higher-earners – but Harford has moved to quell speculation that the striker is off.

Not only does he plan on Vine staying – but he plans to deploy the striker, who he rates highly, in a target man role up front.

He told the Ealing Gazette: ‘Rowan is flying in training.

‘He’s not ready for 90 minutes, but he’s recovered nicely from a clean-up operation on scar tissue affecting his groin, and he`s beginning to look sharp.

‘Rowan fits the bill of target man, and he`ll be given the chance to show what he can do.’

Indeed his figure will be that much more influential if Rangers fail to land their targets in the remaining days of the January transfer window.

Rangers have offloaded Patrick Agyemang and are seeking to rid themselves of Alessandro Pellicori – who has failed to make the grade since his summer capture from Avellino.

The R’s attacking force is now thread-bare, with Jay Simpson, Vine and Antonio German the only recognised strikers in the R’s squad – with Angelo Balanta also capable of playing up top.
