Antonio German opened the scoring following his return to the starting line-up after an impressive run-out against Brentford in the reserves.
German had peppered the Shots target early on with a header inches over the bar before testing Jordan Clement with a powerful drive – but it was his strike that gave Rangers the advantage on the stroke of half time.
The young forward robbed Calum Nimmo of the ball before racing clear and firing a powerful drive which brushed the fingertips of Clement, but nevertheless nestled in the corner – reward indeed for Rangers dominance.
The lead was doubled after the break when a free-kick was only half cleared following a header by Max Ehmer. That allowed Sam Bewick to finish the chance off with aplomb from just outside the area.
Shortly before the hour mark Aldershot bounced back as Max Worsfield’s cross found Josh Pearson unmarked, and his cool chest gave George Landais the time and space to roll the ball home.
The game drew level moments later when defender Adam Mekki raced through after another excellent pass from Worsfield to flick the ball over the onrushing keeper Nik-Lee Bulmer.
In a fast moving game that ebbed and flowed Rangers re-took the lead courtesy of some good fortune as Sam Bewick’s header rebounded back off the post and in off the back of Clement’s head.
The man at the centre of the action was Sam Bewick, and his foraging counter-attacking run took him the length of the field before rolling the ball under Clement to make the game 4-2.
The returning duo combined to make it an unassailable lead as Max Ehmer’s corner found Elliott Cox, who powered a header into the top corner to round off his reintroduction.
That makes it a win and a defeat for Steve Gallen’s young hoops in the Youth Alliance Cup following their slender defeat against Millwall last week.
On Saturday September 19, Rangers will host Wycombe Wanderers in the next game of the cup competition.
