Rangers return to Loftus Road on Tuesday evening to do battle with Norwich City in the 55th meeting between the two teams at Loftus Road..
We first welcomed our visitors to Shepherds Bush on the 17th February 1921, sending them home with tails firmly between their legs following a 2-0 win/ This scoreline was to be repeated on the following 3 fixtures between the clubs and it wasn`t until the 6th meeting that Norwich broke the run by winning 2-1.
In the 88 years that have followed that first game we have met our visitors in all of the divisions from Division 3 South to the Premiership. We have a very healthy record of winning 29, drawing 15 and only losing 10, scoring 101 goals and conceding 56 in the process.
For those looking for a few goals then this promised to be a good fixture as we have only failed to score in 8 of those 55 games, and only 4 have ended scoreless. The most occurring scoreline is a 2-0 win for the R`s which the Loftus Road faithful have seen 10 times over the years.
Our recent home form has dipped of late and in the last 6 games we have won 2 drawn 3 and lost last time out against Ipswich, scoring and conceding 6 goals.
Norwich, as their lowly position shows, have struggled away from home losing 11 of their 17 games, but despite the arrival of Bryan Gunn to the helm things have not changed on their travels, and in their last 6 games they have drawn 2 and lost 4, although one of those points came from a 3-3 draw at Wolves.
Our scoring stats show that we are most likely to score either between 15 and 30 minutes and in the last 15 minutes of the game, and we appear to be more vulnerable to concede between the 60th and 75th minutes.
Norwich, however, also score most of their goals between the 60th and 75th minutes, and are vulnerable to conceding just before and after half time.
Looking at this fixture historically, the odds point to a home win. Despite our recent home form Norwich`s not so good away form shows that we should turn the tide and come away with all 3 points on Tuesday night.
My view is that we will take a lead early in the first half and increase that lead just after half time. However, a late goal from our visitors will make for a nervy end to the game.
My prediction 2-1 to the R`s, but we could witness that long awaited 3 or 4 goal win.
