The Stat Attack – Ipswich Town

Lenny367 takes a look at the stats that matter as the R`s take on Ipswich Town this weekend.

On Friday 7th April 1939 George Brown and Company of Greenock launched the MV Summity on the same day that Ipswich Town Football club made their first visit to Loftus Road with the game ending in a 0-0 stalemate.

Over the years that have followed we definitely have the upper hand in the contest, winning 13, drawing 8 and losing 8.

The most common score line in this fixture is a 1-0 win to the R`s which has been seen 5 times. The best win has been 3 – 0 and the worst defeat was 0 – 4.

In the 6 home games we have played under Paulo Sousa we have yet to lose, winning 3 and drawing 3, scoring 7 and conceding 4. Although it may be a slight concern that we have drawn our last 3 home games. Our last defeat at home was to Burnley in what was Mr Dowie`s last home game.

Ipswich`s away form has picked up recently winning 3 of the last 6 away games, drawing 1 and losing twice, the last loss being 3 – 0 at Swansea.

The R`s continue to be best at scoring between 15 and 30 minutes, and in the last 15 minutes. Defensively there is no particular time when we seem to be at our most vulnerable to concede.

Ipswich are at their scoring best in the fifteen minute periods before and after half time. Whereas the defence seems to start and finish badly, being at their most vulnerable in the opening and closing fifteen minutes of the game.

My prediction for this week: A home win with the R`s scoring either at the start of the game or the end of the game, or both – 1 or 2 to nil.
