The Stat Attack – Cardiff City

Lenny367 takes a look at the stats that matter as the R`s face Cardiff City at Ninian Park tonight.

We first made the trip from West London to Ninian park in Cardiff for a league game on the 14 November 1931 in the 3rd Divison South, and any R`s fan who made the long journey would have come home extremely following our rampant 4-0.

Had they returned the following year they would have witnessed a 5-2 thumping of the Bluebirds. Since then Cardiff have undoubtedly had the upper hand as in the 31 league games played we have returned home victorious only 8 times, shared the points 7 times and come away empty handed 16 times.

Looking at the scores in these games it shows that a 0-1 defeat has been the most frequent score, happening on 6 occasions.

This is closely followed by a 0-0 draw, occurring 4 times.

Since Paulo Sousa`s arrival we have played away 6 times and only lost at Sheffield Wednesday in his first trip away from Loftus Road. In those games we have only conceded 6 goals while scoring 10 times.

In their last 6 home games Cardiff have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 0, Scoring 11 and conceding only 3 in the process.

Our scoring stats show that we are most likely to score either between 15 and 30 minutes and in the last 15 minutes of the game, and we appear to be more vulnerable to concede between the 60th and 75th minutes.

At home Cardiff score most of their goals in the last 15 minutes of each half, but are also vulnerable to conceding at the same time.

Looking at this fixture historically, the odds point to a home win, something that is also backed up by the current home form of the Bluebirds.

However our recent away form shows that we are no pushovers, so I will be looking for us to take a lead midway through the first half only to be pegged back by a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
