Martin Haywood will take charge of this weekend’s clash between Queens Park Rangers and Coventry City.

Haywood from West Yorkshire joined the national list of assistant referees in 2002 before being promoted four years later to the national list of referees.

This weekend he will be assisted by Mr Glenn Hambling (Norfolk) and Mr Harry Lennard (East Sussex), while the fourth official is Mr Darren Sheldrake (Surrey).

Thus far this season he has taken charge of 21 games, dishing out 36 yellow cards and one red – giving him an average of 1.76 cards per game.

Refereeing Rangers

Mr Haywood first took charge of Rangers in April 2009 as Gareth Ainsworth’s QPR travelled to high-flying Burnley.

Former R’s defender Clarke Carlisle scored the winner which appeared to deflect off a Burnley hand on the way in and despite some furious protestations the goal was given.

The official also saw Rangers’ subsequent season peak at Pride Park with Jim Magilton’s R’s playing some free-flowing football to overcome a two goal deficit live on the BBC.

Paul Dickov and Robbie Savage put the Rams two goals to the good, before Adel Taarabt, Gavin Mahon, Jay Simpson and Ákos Buzsáky rounded off a dominant second half performance.

A season later Rangers were back at Pride Park under Mr Haywood, with this time Neil Warnock presiding over a positive QPR side.

It wasn’t going well for the visitors as Kris Commons and James Bailey opened a two-goal advantage for the hosts, before history repeated itself and two injury time goals from Patrick Agyemang and Jamie Mackie secured a memorable point.
