Phil Gibbs from the West Midlands will take charge of QPR’s away trip to Doncaster Rovers this weekend.
The official has been in the business since 1993 but was only promoted to the national list of referees in 2008 after several years taking charge in the Conference.
He has only taken charge of Queens Park Rangers twice previously, and this will mark only his sixth Championship clash of the campaign.
This weekend he will be assisted by Mr Mark Duncan (Cheshire), Mr Colin Harwood (Greater Manchester) and the fourth official Mr Nigel Murphy (Nottinghamshire).
Thus far this season Mr Gibbs has dished out 75 yellow cards and three reds in 27 games, giving him an average of 2.89 cards per game.
His first meeting with QPR was back in August 2009 when a Nicky Maynard blockbuster settled matters between Bristol City and Jim Magilton’s high-flying QPR.
The R’s weren’t out-shadowed by any stretch of the imagination, but the class of Maynard shone through on the evening as he crashed home an effort from distance to settle the encounter.
Later that campaign came another crushing defeat, with Mr Gibbs presiding over the demise of Magilton’s side in the 5-1 home thrashing by underachieving Middlesbrough.
The R’s were naïve in their approach and despite halving the deficit courtesy of Patrick Agyemang; Dave Kitson, Leroy Lita (2), Gary O’Neil and Mark Yeates put the score beyond doubt.
