Peter Bankes from Merseyside will take charge of the Championship clash between Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers

Teams: Aston Villa v Queens Park Rangers
Date: Tuesday 4th April, 2017

Assistant: Paul Hodskinson (Lancashire)
Assistant: Daniel Leach (Oxfordshire)
Fourth Official: Darren Drysdale (Lincolnshire)

Previously one of England’s foremost assistant referees – Mr Bankes is now among the Select Group 2 referees and has taken charge of four QPR games to date in his career.

Bankes does dish out the cards somewhat liberally as 119 yellows in 34 games would suggest – an average of 3.5 cards per game. To accompany this he has reached double figures for the season in red cards – ten in sum.

Where Aston Villa in concerned he has certainly not bucked this trend – dishing out eight yellows in defeat to Preston North End (0-2) and five in another reversal at Leeds United (0-2). It augurs well for QPR that the other game he took charge of involving Aston Villa was another defeat at Newcastle United, once again by the 0-2 margin.

He will be assisted by Paul Hodskinson (Lancashire) and Daniel Leach (Oxfordshire) with Darren Drysdale (Lincolnshire) the fourth official.

Mr Hodskinson ran the line in Rangers 4-1 win over Birmingham City earlier this season. Mr Leach meanwhile was the opposite linesman in that victory but also assisted in wins over Swindon Town (2-2 AET) and Cardiff City (2-1) – but also the thumping home defeat by Newcastle United (0-6).
