1950
British pilot Freddie Bodsworth registered Gulf Aviation as a private share holding company, before a demonstration accident killed him in 1951.
1974
The Foundation Treaty signed by the Kingdom of Bahrain, State of Qatar, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the Sultanate of Oman gave each government a 25% share in the newly re-branded Gulf-Air.
1988
Gulf Air added Boeing 767`s to the ever growing fleet. Whilst services were also expanding to Frankfurt, Istanbul, Damascus, Dar es Salaam, Fujairah and Nairobi, with flights to Shiraz and Baghdad being resumed.
1990
Celebrated its 40 year anniversary. It ever expanding service list included Singapore, Sydney and Trivandrum with Gulf Air becoming the first Arab airline to fly to Australia.
1998
No-smoking policy were introduced initially on flights to Singapore and Australia and were later extended to the full range of Gulf Air flights.
2003
Announced a sponsorship deal with the Bahrain Grand Prix until 2010.
2006
Withdrawal of Abu Dhabi to establish its own airline, Etihad Airways.
2007
The government of Bahrain claimed 100% ownership of Gulf Air, when joint-owner Oman withdrew from the airline.
