Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia has admitted the QPR made an approach for striker Daryl Murphy in the summer.

Long-term target Daryl Murphy has been in the Rangers wish-list for some time, with the R`s attempting to snap the striker under both Luigi De Canio and Iain Dowie, this latest development sees Ricky Sbragia deny a loan move, but is open to a permanent switch.

The Black Cats boss told journallive that he wouldn`t be averse to the young forward leaving the club all together rather than just a short term move.

He said: “QPR did enquire in the summer. But we won`t let him go out on loan – somebody would need to buy him”

The Irish forward signed for Sunderland in June 2005 from Waterford United and since then has made 105 appearances in all competitions, 62 of which were starts, scoring a mere 14 goals. A months loan at Sheffield Wednesday towards the end of 2005 yielded no goals.
