Earlier this afternoon Queens Park Rangers confirmed that Conor Washington had agreed to mutually terminate his deal at Loftus Road and he leaves the club as a free agent.
The Northern Ireland international was out of contract at the end of the 2018/19 campaign and it wasn’t a great spell really as he only found the net 14 times in 98 games following the 26-year-old’s arrival from Peterborough United back in January 2016.
The club wished him well in their statement announcing the move and it was expected that this decision had been taken to ease through a new permanent deal for the player from the off, and that came to pass with a subsequent announcement that he had now joined fellow Championship club Sheffield United.
He heads to Bramall Lane on a 12-month deal as he looks to impress them and manager Chris Wilder over the next season and a bit.
Far easier from our point of view that dealing with a ‘will it won’t it’ loan deal when it comes to a permanent transfer and the hope will be on the back of this deal, that maybe we have an opportunity on Tomer Hemed or Nahki Wells in terms of permanently acquiring one of them, otherwise he simply becomes another player we have to replace down the line.
