Burnley forward Steven Thompson will remain sidelined for the clash against Rangers this Saturday.

Manager Owen Coyle revealed that the Scottish hitman is likely to be unavailable for both clashes over the Easter period.

‘Steven Thompson is still injured and won’t make Saturday. He is getting better and is training away,’ Coyle told burnleyfootballclub.co.uk.

‘He is desperate to be involved, but we can’t take any chances. Hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later.”

With Burnley becoming increasingly short on bodies in the season run-in, they are likely to hand Martin Paterson and Robbie Blake the strikers roles at Turf Moor this weekend.

The Clarets occupy the final playoff place with 66 points from 41 games – Rangers now nine points adrift in a seemingly insurmountable total.
