The following is a translation of an article that first appeared on the web site of the portuguese football journal ‘A Bola on line’ late on Friday last week.

Even with Queen’s Park Rangers in the middle of the Championship league table, the Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa did not feel his position is at risk and says the aim is to create a solid team to fight for promotion to the top flight of English football next season.

‘From the outset, the objective was to prepare a solid team for next season and then struggling to climb up the Championship. My contract is not only for this season. The owners bought the club two years ago with the aim of fighting for promotion to the top flight in the third season,” recalled Paulo Sousa, who took command of the technical team last November.

The London team currently occupies the 11th place of the Championship and is increasingly further from the possibility of securing a place in the play-offs:

‘Today the team is in the middle of the table without some major players who are injured. In pre-season, when they are recovered, we will reflect on the need to make a step forward. The aim is to start well next season and keep us on top of the table until the end.’
