Paulo Sousa`s apparent shift in formation worked to perfection as Rangers inflicted defeat on a weary Swansea City side.

Sousa had shifted from the 4-5-1 to the 4-1-4-1, a delicate shift in formation and roles that paid dividends on the evening. While some may not see too much of a change it seems to Paulo Sousa that the intricate adaptation of his unit made all the difference.

‘Tactically, we were perfect tonight, because each and every player did their jobs to a very high standard.” Sousa told QPR.co.uk

‘We’ve had a lot of critics and a lot of adversities with injuries – but we showed tonight that if you believe, you will succeed.

‘We showed great unity this evening and that is what is required against a side like Swansea, who – as I’ve said from my first week in the job – play the best football in the division.

‘It is an important victory – and a very pleasing one given the way we played.’

Welcome relief for Rangers came on the half hour mark as Mikele Leigertwood converted a header from Jordi Lòpez`s floated free kick. It was the R`s first win in ten games and the first time Swansea boss Roberto Martinez had lost back to back games as Swans` boss.

Sousa indicated however that this is only the start of what he is trying to achieve in W12 as he looks to haul the side into full fitness, thus reaching their true potential.

He said: ‘It is not relief tonight, because I have great confidence in what I am trying to achieve here.

‘I believe in my work and my players and as I have said before, with every player fit, we are a very, very good side.’

Rangers now host Bristol City on Saturday in W12 with a view to building on a priceless victory and finishing the season with a bang in front of the home faithful.
