Sousa had spoken on Tuesday night, after our defeat in the 119th minute of the replay of the 3rd round FA Cup tie against Burnley, that he felt that the team were very, very close to winning away at last. And he was right!

A short 4 days later and the Rs romped to a 2-0 win which, but for the late heroics of Roy Carroll in the Derby goal to deny Hogan Ephraim, could have been a bigger scoreline!

Sousa spoke to the press and QPR.co.uk after a match which saw the Rs win their first away game under Paulo Sousa, and only their second of the current season; and he admitted that he was delighted to secure his first away win as our manager!

“I am of course delighted to get the first away win with me!” Sousa told BBC Radio London

“We have been very unlucky not to win away over the last few months, so today`s victory was fully deserved,”Sousa told the gathering media.

“We were looking for that victory,”Sousa explained to BBC.co.uk/Sport “because in the last 5 games, especially 3 of them, we were unlucky to not win those games. We controlled most parts of those games and we created a lot, built a lot, of opportunities to win.”

“Especially when you lose a game after 120 minutes, creating a lot of opportunities, deserve to win, and you don`t win. What happens? Psychologically the players are down and it is not easy to deal with.”

“But today my players answered this very well. It took a lot of personality to come here and control the game and play so well.”

Speaking to QPR`s official website, Sousa added: “We saw some of the evolution come to fruition today. Everything we have worked on over the last few months shone through and I am extremely proud.”

Sousa felt that the some of our football yesterday was the best he has seen – at least away from home!

“Some of our football was magnificent at times – it was probably the best we have played in my time in charge, certainly away from home.”

Sousa also spoke about Club captain Martin Rowlands, who was stretchered off after only 12 minutes with what looks like a very serious knee injury – and Sousa will know all about those sorts of injuries!

“Martin has a very serious knee injury. It looks like he will be sidelined for a long period, but we will send him for a scan on Monday and see what the results show.”

Rowlands` injury comes at a time when Patrick Agyemang is still out, recovering from an operation, Rowan Vine is on the mend but nowhere near ready for a first-team appearance; and Akos Buzsaky will not grace our team with his presence till next season.

“We have lost a great player in Martin Rowlands, but his personality is huge. He is a fighter, a warrior, who epitomises everything we are about and his presence will continue to shine through.”

“This fantastic victory is dedicated to him,”he concluded.
