Paulo Sousa has once again refused to rule out a playoff push in the light of a stalemate against Southampton.

The goalless draw in St Mary`s marked nine games without a win for Rangers and no goals in four games, but the R`s boss believes that his side are capable of a late push.

Sousa spoke to QPR.co.uk following the disappoint display on the south coast.

He said: ‘Until the maths gives us other ideas, we will keep believing, keep thinking, keep working and keep motivating our players to try and reach the top-six.

‘But, the board have expectations and I have expectations and next season we will be stronger and more focused on achieving promotion.’

Despite once again drawing a blank in front of goal Sousa was pleased with the amount of chances created – one of the positives he could draw from the game.

The other were the debuts of youngsters Antonio German and Adel Taarabt, the latter on loan from Tottenham Hotspur – something which Sousa believed was a major positive.

‘We had a 17 year-old, a 19 year-old and a lot of other young players and that fills me with great belief.” said Sousa.

‘Antonio and Adel (Taarabat) are very good prospects, but they are still young and will need time to gel.

‘The fact we came here, to a tough place, and got a clean sheet and a point with such a young side is very positive.’

Rangers will now face Swansea City on Tuesday night in a rearranged fixture as they look to stifle the Swans promotion push.
