Rangers manager Paulo Sousa spoke to Hugo Daniel Sousa of Desporto, a Portuguese sports magazine and website, in Lisbon during the international break, where he was present at the launch of the Football World Year Book.

I the interview it is very showed how very strongly he believes in promotion to the Premier League next season and continued to say ‘We will solidify the foundation of the team and will be able to attack promotion to the Premier League next year with more strength,’
Our manager also highlighted the importance of putting things in place in the pre-season, something he was unable to do having joined Rangers in mid season, and again reiterated his, and the boards desire of “creating a project with a solid foundation”.

Sousa also spoke of life in the Championship saying he was ‘very satisfied’ with the option of joining Rangers. ‘It is a project that I always wanted because it is a league with great intensity and great passion. There are many supporters and the away match with Derby County had 33 thousand fans in the stadium.’

He continued by speaking of the competitiveness of the English second tier. ‘The intensity does not let you enjoy a victory or reflect on a defeat because we have two to three games per week. In all the 24 teams can beat each other. It’s easy to have good moments and some less good,’ he concluded.

He also spoke about the current plight of another beleagured manager, national coach Carlos Queiroz, which gave an insight into his understanding of the game and management. “I have followed the “selecção” (national team) with nervousness and optimism. I believe Portugal will get to the World Cup Finals because they has quality and the right people. Carlos Queiroz is the right person for this project” he said. “Portugal has the quality and only luck has failed us. There is nothing of concern. The great teams make the difficult times turn into good times. We have talent to go to the Finals’

At a time when certain areas of the English press are talking about his possible exit from the club it was good to see Paulo talking positively about next season. It is also good to see the growing amount of interest being taken in us as a football club by the larger circulation football media in Portugal since Paulos appointment.

Given the passion for football by the Portuguese speaking nations, the respect that they have for Paulo Sousa, plus the great numbers of them in London it might be an idea for our newly appointed Global ambassador to wander through Stockwell in order to spread the word! If several thousand can go along to the Shepherds Bush Empire to watch Brasilian Pop Legend Ivete Sangalo in concert I am sure some could be persuaded to go those few extra yards to watch the R`s.
