Message boards have been buzzing today with the speculation that, following last night`s Board meeting, Paulo Sousa will be asked to leave the Club before the end of this weekend – let alone the end of this season.

I will not repeat all the speculation here, other than to say that the Daily Mail have just recently made an “exclusive” announcement, ahead even of the official QPR website QPR.co.uk, that Sousa has been sacked and that Gareth Ainsworth has been placed in charge until the end of the season.

I should like to point out that Sousa did take training today at Harlington. And there has been no similar announcement, for example, on Sky Sports News, which I am currently watching! But that hasn`t stopped the speculation like that he said his goodbyes to the players! Other rumours are that an announcement can be expected sometime this evening.

I shall be most disappointed if this is true because I feel that this is a mistake. I know the football has not been pretty at times this season, particularly recently on a terrible pitch at Loftus Road (and, apparently, at the Harlington training ground too). I know we have missed too many of our most important players and that Sousa didn`t have much time to get to know his squad, let alone Championship football, being literally thrown into the deep end.

But I do think the players respect and like him and, more importantly, he should be given the summer to work with the squad and most, if not all, of next season to show that he really does have what it takes. Because “Rome” was not built in a day – and QPR will never get promotion if we keep on changing the man at the helm!
