Paulo Sousa looks ahead to this weekend`s FA Cup clash with Burnley indicating that the competition holds a special place for him.

Rangers will be looking for their first cup win since 2001, when they overcame Luton Town after extra time in W12 courtesy of a Chris Kiwomya brace.

Since then they have exited the competition at the first time of asking against Arsenal, Swansea City, Vauxhall Motors and Grimsby Town along with Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers, Luton Town and finally Chelsea.

Sousa is looking to dispel this horrific run of results in the world famous cup competition, as he looks to embark on a cup run of his own.

Speaking to QPR.co.uk the Portuguese boss admitted that the FA Cup holds a special place in his heart and is excited about participating in the competition.

He said: ‘Saturday marks the start of our FA Cup adventure and I am very excited about managing QPR in the most famous Cup competition in World football.

‘I grew up watching the Cup back home in Portugal and I know a lot about the history of the competition and the fond place it holds in the hearts of English football fans.

‘Some of the most iconic images in football history stem from the FA Cup and I am really excited about the prospect of participating in the competition.’

Burnley have got the better of the R`s on their last two trips to W12, and coupled with the R`s recent cup record, one would be forgiven for thinking Rangers are underdogs going into the game.

However Sousa believes that Rangers positive home record since he has taken charge will see the R`s through.

He continued: ‘Burnley will provide another very stern test for us, but I have great confidence in my group of players.

‘I am glad we are at home, because our record at Loftus Road is very positive and we are enjoying a good unbeaten run here.

‘We will prepare like we do for every fixture and the focus remains on winning the match, and on this occasion, advancing to the next round.’
