Paulo Sousa was unhappy to be sent to the stands following an incident involving Samuel Di Carmine.

Rangers were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace this afternoon (Saturday), but the incident that saw Paulo Sousa sent to the stands will undoubtedly take the headlines in a drab affair in W12.

On the stroke of half time Claude Davis, who has previously gone unpunished for a flailing elbow, stuck his boot into Samuel Di Carmine`s face in what was a dangerous tackle in front of the South Africa Road Stand.

Sousa leapt to the defence of his striker and was sent of for his remonstrations. He believed that he had to step in before the situation escalated.

‘It was becoming dangerous with Sami,’ Sousa told QPR.co.uk

‘There were some really bad challenges on Sami. One was with the players arm, another with a high foot – it’s difficult to control your emotions, because I care about my players.

‘Sami had blood streaming from his nose, it was a poor challenge.

‘I was unhappy and surprised to be sent to the stands. I’m an emotional person, an emotional coach – I was just trying to care for my player.’

From the stands Sousa saw the R`s lay siege to Julián Speroni`s goal to no avail as the hosts lack the necessary killer instinct.

Sousa thought that his side had a good shout for a penalty in the final minute of the game as Rowan Vine`s cross appeared to be handled.

He said: ‘I think the referee missed a clear penalty for us.

‘It was a handball, but today it was not given, which is disappointing.”

Rangers now face the unenviable trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley for the fourth time this season – and they will be hoping to exact revenge for their cup exit in Lancashire earlier this season.
