Simek – ‘I’ve Come A Long Way’

Former QPR loanee Frankie Simek speaks about the prospect of facing his former club this weekend, explaining that he has learned from the experience.

Simek spent a month on loan at Loftus Road when the R’s were first promoted in 2004, making his debut against Preston North End.

He made five appearances for QPR in that period before a brief spell at Bournemouth saw him move permanently to Sheffield Wednesday in 2005.

He recounted to swfc.co.uk the time he spent in W12 and how far he has come as a player since moving to Hillsborough.

‘It was my first taste of league football,’ he said.

‘I played about eight games down there but that seems like ages ago.

‘I think I’ve come a long way. Just for the first few games in the league you’re a bit tentative – you don`t really know what to expect.

‘I`ve come a long way that`s for sure.’

Simek has just managed to work his way back into the Wednesday line-up following the humbling at the hands of Watford live on Sky.

He started his first league game of the season in the creditable draw against Bristol City at Ashton Gate, a game that he feels the Owls could and should have won.

While Simek admits that his side were on fine form against the Robins, owing much to a shift in formation, he thinks that Rangers will provide a stern test of their home credentials.

‘It’ll be a tough game for us,’ he continued.

‘They’ll be a good team, they’re good attacking players. We’re going to have to be on our game if we’re going to win.

‘They`ve got some good strikers, some good guys on the wing as well.

‘Whoever’s picked has got to be up for the job because they’re going to come at us and hopefully we can withstand that.’

Wednesday have kept only two clean sheets at Hillsborough this season, and Simek will be hoping to be part of the rearguard to shut Rangers’ attacking prowess out.

Rangers by comparison have only failed to score on two occasions this season as they look to get back to winning ways in Sheffield this weekend.
