“Show Me An Easy Game In This Division” – Warburton Reflects On QPR’s Championship Start

|

With the Championship fixtures lists being released on Thursday for all clubs, the coming 2019/20 campaign under new manager Mark Warburton gets a little bit more real for Queens Park Rangers fans.

Opening the season with a trip to Stoke City, it’s a pretty tough August with relegated Huddersfield Town, Bristol City, Swansea City, Wigan Athletic and then Sheffield Wednesday to face. But it’s a pretty mixed run until a tough November with Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Derby County in quick succession.

With that said though, on paper at least, the run of fixtures for me could’ve been far harsher.

With plenty of optimism given the three transfer captures so far of Liam Kelly, Lee Wallace and the surprise arrival of Yoann Barbet, I certainly don’t think the fixture list will dampen that and if we can hit the ground running under the new gaffer we could be well placed points wise for when the more tricky blocks of games arrive.

Speaking to the Official Site to reflect on Thursdays announcement, Warburton was pretty level headed about things, knowing you have to face every one twice regardless of the order.

“It’s a tough start. But show me an easy game in this division. It’s a great league for so many reasons and the fact there are quality teams throughout it adds to that. Every game – week in, week out – will demand a lot of you and will challenge you. We have to be prepared, they’re good fixtures, good for the fans and we have to make sure that we are consistent.”

With Warburton admitting he was hoping to see at least another two or three fresh faces in before the window closes, if they are the same quality as what we’ve seen arrive already, we could be set for a far more comfortable year.
