Former R`s midfielder Steve Lomas could be in line for a shock managerial role at a League One club.

Lomas, 34 formerly of West Ham United and Manchester City is looking to move into management and sees the vacant post at Colchester United as the ideal role to begin his managerial career:

‘I’d be very interested. Lomas told the Evening Gazette

“Colchester is a great club and I’m looking to get into that side of things.”

The role at Colchester United was vacated by Geraint Williams only a couple of weeks ago, and the former QPR midfielder is keen on the idea of walking in the footsteps of successful former managers:

‘I see it as a good starting position. Colchester United has a history of giving young managers a chance, like Phil Parkinson and Geraint Williams in the past.’

The former Northern Ireland international was born in Hannover and had a successful period with Manchester City, after 137 appearances, he moved to West Ham United for £1,600,000 where he made 214 appearances.

He made the move to Rangers in 2005 under Ian Holloway, along with Richard Langley – and contributed immensely in his final season with the club under John Gregory. Lomas played for Gillingham last season, who wanted to get him off the wage bill, but Lomas wanted to see out his contract with the Gills and retired in the summer.
