Paul Finney of the Independent R`s divulges his opinion on the new campaign, wishing compatriot Magilton the best of luck.

How do you rate Rangers performance last season?

Last season was just so odd and at times almost bizarre. We should not have sacked Dowie and then to sack Sousa so soon after was just daft. I hope this season the board let the manager and coach get on with it and learn from the mistakes of last season.

What was your stand out moment?

Villa away was great, I was on a high for days after that game and the Rangers fans that night were top class.

How do you feel about the appointment of Jim Magilton?

I was a bit shocked like us all at first. Jim comes across as a very decent man, as it happens when I used to see Northern Ireland games I always thought he was very much a QPR player. Always had a great football brain. He needs a season and as a fellow Belfast man I wish him the best, and i know he will do his best – he is that kind of man.

Do you feel Rangers have strengthened adequately?

I think that we have the backbone of a very good side and in Akos, Rowlands, Vine and Connolly players that would walk into many other sides.

Alejandro Faurlín I know nothing about but forget the fee quoted in the papers and the hype he will need time to come to terms with the English game as will Alessandro Pellicori. Adel Taarabt could be the best of the lot and he could do the job for us that Fraizer Campbell did for Hull and if we sign Marshall he will be good back up.

Who will be the key player(s) for the R`s this season?

Vine, Connolly, Akos, Rowlands and Taarabt

Where do you expect the R`s to finish this season?

I will be hated for this but unless we sign some full backs and a proven forward at this level as it stands maybe we can get into the play-off zone, but may just miss out is my fear.

Championship – Who will be?

Champions: I will go for Boro

Overachievers: Bristol City have made some good buys and if they gel will be hard to beat, Both the Sheffield clubs need to push on this season and worth keeping a eye on. But I have to say i think Derby and Forest will be there or abouts come May.

Underachievers: Newcastle – We have been there and seen what it is like and they are a much bigger fish than us, they are a dead man walking.

Young Player to Watch: I like Rose and also will love to see young Balanta start to get a few goals. The lad has a great touch and skill and I would be so happy if he can do well this season and young Connolly will I am sure prove again what a great player he is.

Top Goalscorer: And that is the million pound question I hope we have not just sold him.
But unless we bring someone in the goals will have to be shared with a few from Akos, Vine and Taarabt. But perhaps Balanta will take his chance.
