Queens Park Rangers co-owner Flavio Briatore could be in line to leave Loftus Road if he is found implicated in the reported ‘race-fixing’ scandal in Formula One.

The scandal centres around Nelson Piquet Jnr crashing out of the Singapore Grand Prix, and since then the story has developed potentially implicating Flavio Briatore and technical director Pat Symonds.

It was alleged that in a leaked statement Piquet gave to the FIA, he was told to crash where it would be advantageous to team-mate Fernando Alonso.

Renault appear before an extraordinary meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Monday September 21 and should Briatore be implicated there could be ramifications in his ownership of QPR.

While the Football League refused to comment until after the meeting in Paris, the Evening Standard were told that one could not own a football club if they are ‘subject to a ban from a sports governing body relating to the administration of their sport.’

If the meeting culminated in his implication he would therefore be in violation of the ‘Fit and Proper’ test for owners, and could henceforth be forced out of W12.
