CHRIS Samba is reportedly closing in on a deal with Queens Park Rangers after flying into London to finalise talks.

The former Blackburn Rovers and Hertha Berlin defender walked out of training with Guus Hiddink’s Anzhi Makhachkala.

The Russian club paid £12.3m to Rovers for his services a year ago, with Rangers an interested party on that occasion also.

Now it appears Rangers are prepared to activate a still sizeable £10m release clause in his contract as talks begin with the 28-year-old.

Harry Redknapp will be hoping the deal can be tied up prior to the January transfer window slamming shut, and bolster his side’s defensive options in light of Ryan Nelsen’s departure.
