Keith Ryan spoke following the QPR Reserves draw away at Brentford indicating that the result wasn’t a necessity in this game.
The R’s took the lead courtesy of a close range strike from Alessandro Pellicori following a Nikki Bull fumble. They were pegged back by Charlie MacDonald following a slip by Romone Rose in the second period.
The Reserve team boss spoke to QPR.co.uk indicating that while the result wasn’t necessarily the one they’d hoped for – the game was a good training exercise for the players to get minutes under their belt.
He said: “I think you have to look sometimes beyond the result. Again it was a great training exercise for some of that lads that haven’t played so many games.
“Gavin Mahon came through it unscathed, got a good 70 minutes under his belt. The same with Patrick Agyemang and Alessandro Pellicori, so that’s a real good thing.”
The goal QPR conceded came about from a Mahon to the right full-back region, and with Rose caught unaware Steve Kabba was allowed to steal in and square for MacDonald. The former Charlton Athletic man finishing with aplomb in the top left hand corner.
Ryan admitted that his side began to tire before the introduction of young substitutes in the second period, and while he was disappointed the former Wycombe Wanderers man was able to see the bigger picture.
“Yes we tired a bit towards the end and conceded,” he continued.
“A mistake a suppose, maybe the ball could have gone forward a little bit earlier. Romone eventually slips, the lad scores a goal.
“We want to win every game – this club should want to win every game. But we`ve got to look a little further than that. The bigger picture is to get lads in tune with what their roles are and also it`s a training exercise for those lads haven`t played the games that perhaps they should have done.”
The experienced side included also included the likes of Matteo Alberti and Tom Heaton, but there was also a good proportion of young talent in the line-up. Antonio German, Ed Harris, Sam Bewick and Max Ehmer just a handful of names to excel in recent games.
