Martin Rowlands has been named club captain of Queens Park Rangers club replacing Adam Bolder.

Bolder relinquished the right handed to him by John Gregory when he departed for Sheffield Wednesday on loan. Since then midfield stall-wart Gareth Ainsworth had taken the mantle of skipper, but now Rowlands is the man to lead the R`s into the 2008/09 season.

Iain Dowie was delighted to hand the 29 year old the captains armband for the forthcoming season to Rangers joint longest serving player:

‘I’m delighted to have a player of Martin’s character and ability at the Club and he will skipper the side again next season,’ Dowie told QPR.co.uk.

‘He’s a hugely important player for us. He shares the same ambitions for the Club as I do and he’s really looking forward to the new campaign.’

Dowie wasted no time in quashing speculation stated in several newspapers that his new skipper is set to leave the club for Premier League Hull City:

‘Martin loves the place and hasn’t got any interest in moving elsewhere.”

‘It’s flattering that other Clubs are interested in our players, but he’s going nowhere.’

Named player of the year, Martin made 44 league appearances scoring 6 goals, but the newly crowned skipper will miss the first 3 games of the season, not owing to his ankle injury but to his red card for a tackle on forlorn West Brom skipper Jonathan Greening.
