Queens Park Rangers physio Paul Hunter has revealed that Martin Rowlands should be ready to return for the game against Peterborough United a week on Saturday.

The preview against Nottingham Forest given by the official website indicated that Rowlands ‘may take part’ – either someone hadn’t consulted with the physio or he suffered a slight re-lapse because he is yet to resume full training.

Hunter told QPR.co.uk that while Rowlands rolled his ankle against Blackpool they have taken appropriate caution with regards to his reintroduction.

“Martin rolled his ankle at the Blackpool game, it wasn`t too serious but we`ve obviously taken our time with it just to make sure it`s right,” he said.

“He`s doing really well now he`s actually back in training with the squad today, he`s doing some fitness work and we`ll see how he handles that.

“The international break is perfect for using that extra time for progressing through and hopefully aim to get back in probably with the lads next week.

“That`s down to the manager but in terms of physiologically we expect him to be able to handle that training load. We`ll see how it goes, get a week under his belt and take it from there.

In other injury news winger Gareth Ainsworth is recovering from a slight thigh injury that has kept him out of action for the last two weeks.

It is expected to be available for selection against Peterborough United a week on Saturday as he looks to re-commence training with the side.

Fellow wide-man Lee Cook is also progressing well with his knee complaint, and according to the physio, he is building up muscle on his troubled area, and further assessment will be made at the end of September.

Defender Matthew Connolly is ready to take part in the next fixture against the Posh after sustaining a blow to his head in the victory over Scunthorpe United.

He clashed with Gary Hooper in an aerial challenge and required a bandage on a slight cut, but will be fine to take part against Peterborough next weekend.
