Barnsley boss Mark Robins admitted that his side’s defensive woes cost them dear at Loftus Road this afternoon.

A brace from Akos Buzsaky and strikes from Mikele Leigertwood, Ben Watson and Jay Simpson condemned the visitors to a 5-2 defeat despite replies from Stephen Foster and Andy Gray.

The Tykes gaffer spoke to barnsleyfc.co.uk following the game admitting that while his side created chances their defensive work wasn’t good enough.

‘It was a costly first ten minutes or so and we really shot ourselves in the foot,” he said.

“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb and were not good enough defensively.

‘We allowed them took much room and conceded some very poor goals. We created one or two things ourselves as well and it could have been seven six to either side. We came within a whisker of equalising but then pushed forward and forgot to defend again.”

The Tykes haven’t got long to recover before facing ambitious West Bromwich Albion at Oakwell, who will no doubt be looking to bounce back following defeat today.
