An experienced Queens Park Rangers reserves side were held by Brentford at Griffin Park this afternoon.

Several first team squad members including Gavin Mahon, Matteo Alberti, Patrick Agyemang, Tom Heaton and Alessandro Pellicori lined up at Brentford along with young members Antonio German, Romone Rose, Lee Brown and Joe Oastler.

The Bees included former QPR players Nikki Bull and Marcus Bean along with ex-Sheffield United and Watford front-man Steve Kabba in a less experienced line-up than Rangers.

QPR looked positive in the early stages and chances for Oastler and Pellicori came and went with both failing to hit the target. While Brentford were under persistent pressure it was Tom Heaton who was forced into a smart save to deny a deflected effort from James McCluskey.

Pellicori once again rose highest in the area moments later from an Alberti corner but failed to hit the target with his header. While at the other end Marcus Bean was quick to remind his former employers of his credentials as a rasping drive flew past the left hand upright after robbing Mahon of possession in the middle.

Pellicori did hand the R’s the lead after the break after Nikki Bull made a hash of a corner and the Italian was on hand to stab the ball home past the despairing former QPR keeper. He made amends soon after to tip Oastler’s speculative drive round the post.

With QPR failing to take a host of chances the visitors drew level and it was Charlie MacDonald, nearly ten years after his cup heroics for Charlton against QPR, that was on hand to score the equaliser.

Kabba capitalised on an error by Romone Rose before squaring for the journeyman forward, and MacDonald made no mistake from close range dispatching beyond the reach of Manchester United loanee Tom Heaton.

MacDonald had another chance moments later but his snatched effort beat Heaton and the post with the hosts firmly in the ascendency. It was Antonio German however that nearly snatched the headlines in this keenly contested affair.

Rangers brought on young guns Max Ehmer, Michael Harriman and Sam Bewick in the latter stages and the exuberance of youth seemed to pay dividends for the visitors. German himself clicked into life with a burst down the right, before cutting inside and curling an effort narrowly wide of the left hand post.

Moments later he received a cross from the right from the boot of Harriman and conspired to head over the bar from close range after some positive build up play.

Brentford: Nikki Bull, Fraser Franks, Ryan Blake (Chris Bush 82), Marcus Bean, Karleigh Osborne, Leon Legge, Lewis Ferrell, James McCluskey, Steve Kabba, Charlie MacDonald (David Pitt 68), Kyle Vassell (Charlie Allen 78).

QPR: Heaton, Rose, Brown, Mahon (Bewick 76), Parmenter, Harris, Alberti, Oastler, Agyemang (Harriman 76), German, Pellicori (Ehmer 82).
