Steven Reid was glad to return to Ewood Park from Queens Park Rangers despite a second month being on the table initially.

Reid joined the club under Jim Magilton and made his debut in the defeat against Doncaster Rovers before appearing once more from the bench.

A hamstring injury hampered his spell in W12, and while the club were expected to extend the deal, Reid admitted he was happy that Flavio Briatore pulled the plug on a second stay.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph that he had even considered quitting the game during his previous spell out owing to the unpredictability of his injuries.

‘When I got injured for QPR in just my second game, I thought here we go again,’ he said.

‘I thought I was going back there for a second month but I think Briatore pulled out of the deal and I am really glad he did now.’

Reid came from the bench to a great ovation from the Blackburn Rovers supporters in their cup tie against Aston Villa, and is looking game to game to get back to full fitness.

“I have got to respect the injuries I have had and just play when the manager sees fit. He felt I was ready for this game but it is just the start of things to come. It is just one result and if in another 10 games I am still in there I can start looking forward.

“I think I have got to forget about my contract situation. There was a stage when I let it worry me but I have had a chat with the manager and you have to forget it and just concentrate on getting fit and playing football.’

As a result of his departure last month Rangers’ midfield remains quite thin on the ground with Ben Watson also departing and Martin Rowlands and Gavin Mahon suffering long-term complaints.
